Separation of function in this shotgun flat is accomplished through a series of slatted wood screens which allow for efficient use of space along with an openness complimentary to the social lifestyle of the homeowners.
The complete remodel of the unit was accomplished at a very low cost per square foot by accommodating the existing structural system and general location of sleeping, bathing, cooking, and living spaces.  While this methodology succeeded in keeping costs low it forced creative solutions to improve functionality and livability.  The use of an elevated platform at the central kitchen location improved the social nature of the area while addressing floor sag issues relating to the 100 year old building.
